Class 9: East Barnby Trip: Day 2
The children had a good night's sleep followed by a gentle walk to the dining room on a sunlit morning with no breeze. Perfect conditions for canoeing, particularly after eating a good breakfast.
The children were issued with buoyancy aids, paddles and helmets ready to embark by minibus to the bank of the Esk to raft canoes prior to their expedition. Look out on here for updates of what they see.
End of second day message:-
It was a beautiful day to canoe down the Esk but at the end of a full day of paddling, the official verdict was that everyone was 'tired'. This meant that everyone worked hard from the moment children worked together to get the canoes from the trailers up to the final paddle into Whitby harbour. The East Barnby staff commented on how positive the children have remained with each other and, despite finding some of the journey hard, they have kept going. They even demonstrated great stone balancing skill during their lunch stop. The evening meal was very welcome and, with energy replenished, and souvenirs selected, the children took part in night-time orienteering around the centre before getting ready for a slightly earlier bedtime. The dormitories are very quiet now.
