East Barnby Class 10 - Day One
The class departed from school on time and arrived at East Barnby with plenty of time to organise the dorms, get waterproofs and be able to meet class 9 on their return from shelter building with big smiles and lots of questions.
Despite the rain, at the start, the children quickly got into their groups and to go do some very exciting scrambling in the beck.
The staff from East Barnby celebrated the way they listened, rose to the challenges and helped each other stretch their comfort zones. It was a pleasure to see all the groups engaging so enthusiastically with new adults, new challenges in new surroundings.
We have lots of photos of the children, and adults, in various states of immersion and joy.
The sun even began to shine as we returned to the minibuses. The quote of the afternoon comes from Thea, who said, 'That was the hardest exercise that I have ever done because my legs were so heavy because of the water.' She was smiling broadly when she said it.' What a great start.
Everyone showered, had a good tea, went to tuck shop and are now orienteering in the dark and mist.
