Safeguarding
Safeguarding is the action taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Safeguarding means:
- Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
- Preventing harm to children’s health or development
- Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes
At Filey School, we fully recognise our statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of our students. Through our day-to-day contact with pupils and families, all staff in school have a responsibility to:
- Identify concerns early to prevent them from escalating
- Provide a safe environment which is conducive to learning
- Identify students who may benefit from early intervention, including with external agencies
- Know what to do in the event of a disclosure regarding abuse or neglect
- Follow the referral process if concerns arise
If you as a parent/carer have concerns about a safeguarding matter in the school, please contact a member of the Safeguarding Team:
