About Our School

School Day

The DfE recommends that secondary school students aged 12 to 16 should be taught for 25 hours per week.

At Filey School students have 25 lessons per week of one hour each as well as Form times. The compulsory school day starts at 08.40 and ends at 15:10. This time runs from the official start of the school day (period 1) to the official end of the compulsory school day. It includes breaks, but not optional after school activities and totals 32.5 hours per week.

At 08.35 bell rings to warn students that they should be present on site and in readiness for period 1 at 08.40.

A student who arrives in class after the second bell at 08.40 is marked late and will receive a one hour detention.

The pattern of the school day is as follows:

Period 1: 8:40am - 9:40am

Period 2: 9:40am - 10:40am

Form Time: 10:40am - 11:00am

Period 3: 11:20am - 12:20pm

Lunch time: 12:20pm - 13:10pm

Period 4: 13:10pm- 14:10pm
