Our Curriculum
At Friarage our intention is to provide an exciting curriculum that provides all pupils from the school's diverse demographic with the necessary skills and knowledge to progress and succeed, ready for the next phase of their education journey and beyond
As a result of the implementation of our curriculum, Friarage pupils will:
- Experience a progression of knowledge and skills that will be revisited in order to embed learning and enable them to be able to share stories and make memories
- Be confident readers who enjoy a range of literature
- Become knowledge and skills rich in all areas of the taught curriculum
- Become independent learners who develop the resilience needed to play a full part in society
- Develop high levels of confidence and self-esteem in a variety of situations within and beyond the school
- Be able to be healthy in body and mind
- Be team players who apply British values and understand the differences and similarities of others within society
- Learn that they can be successful
- Feel included and know that they have a voice
The Friarage Curriculum includes all the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum, including the North Yorkshire scheme of work for RE.
Over a child’s journey through school, pupils will also access key opportunities to enhance their life experiences and develop their cultural capital. These opportunities are called the Friarage 15:

Children's University
Friarage School is proud to be a Children's University school. The programme provides children with the opportunity to take learning outside of the classroom and gives them recognition for their efforts out of school. Children earn 'learning hours' for completing a variety of tasks outside school such as swimming lessons or writing a film review. The programme encourages children to earn points in four categories: School Community, Academic, The Arts and Sports.
Pupil Voice June 2022
‘Children's University has helped me get outside more because every weekend I used to stay inside but now I go to the beach more.’
‘Getting the rewards for the work really makes me feel proud of myself and it feels like I have really worked hard to have achieved that milestone.’
‘I enjoy having something to do at evening, it has made me come outside more and be more adventurous outdoors and indoors. I also love the fact that we can do fun activities in the holidays’
‘Without Children's University, I wouldn't have gone to any clubs. But, joining it has made me realise that I should try new things and I joined Drama Club which was really fun.’
