Kayaking and Canoeing
The school has a wide selection of Canoeing and Kayaking equipment. We have our own fleet of Old Town Open Canoes and a fleet of Pyranha Kayaks. In addition to this we have safety equipment of the highest quality and safety standards.
All sessions are run in accordance to the stringent standards of the British Canoe Union. The sessions take place on a local venue and we currently offer three types of course. The first is a taster session which gives the students a chance to experience at first hand controlling a canoe or kayak and to learn about safety whilst on the water. All students who complete this course are eligible to receive the Paddlepower Start Award.
We then offer our students the chance to achieve the BCU 1 star award, which requires the student to be able to paddle both a Kayak and Open Canoe successfully.
The next qualification is the BCU 2 star award and is the award that you must take in order to become a Level 1 Coach of Kayaking and Canoeing. This requires a much more fluent paddling ability and the ability to rescue and assist other water users.
In the near future we shall be giving the students the chance to paddle on White Water and to complete their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions by Canoe. Currently sessions take place on Tuesday evenings.
