Outdoor Education Department

Lady Lumley’s School has a thriving  and award winning Outdoor Education ethos and department. Outdoor Education and Activities are led by David Mann and supported by a dedicated team of staff who volunteer a great deal of time to support students in Outdoor Education.

The school benefits from a great deal of specialist equipment which both enhance and allow further development of Outdoor Learning at school. This specialist equipment includes:

  • A dedicated outdoor education centre situated in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors available for all students to use
  • 2 climbing walls with associated equipment
  • A fleet of Kayaks
  • A fleet of Open Canoes
  • Watersports safety equipment
  • A fleet of Trek Mountain Bikes
  • A comprehensive selection of Duke of Edinburgh’s Award equipment (Tents, Bags, Stoves etc…)
  • Orienteering equipment

This equipment is checked and maintained in accordance with National Governing Body guidelines to ensure maximum safety.

We are fortunate to have very experienced and qualified members of staff at the school. These qualifications include:

  • Summer Mountain Leader Award
  • Climbing instructor
  • Walking Group Leaders Award
  • Outdoor First Aid
  • Kayak and Canoe coach
  • Whitewater kayak coach
  • Mountain bike instructor

Award winning LOtC

The provision of Outdoor Education at the school is without a doubt excellent and this was recently rewarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.  The school won the award for innovation in LOtC in secondary schools.
