Wall Climbing

As part of our impressive array of Outdoor Education equipment, Lady Lumley's School is now offering climbing on its brand new state of the art climbing wall. The wall, situated in the Sports Hall offers a challenge to beginners and experts alike. The highest quality and safest equipment is used to ensure an extremely safe session.

Currently a 7 week climbing course is offered on Wednesdays at 3.35pm. During this course students will learn the following essential aspects of rock climbing:

  • Safety on the wall
  • Effective warm ups and warm downs
  • Essential climbing knots
  • How to climb
  • Buddying a partner
  • Traversing the wall
  • Belaying a partner
  • Climbing on ropes and rope work

Climbing is an excellent form of exercise, which challenges both the body and mind. Taking in part in such an activity raises not only physical competence but also raises self esteem and empowers the student. Students taking part in the course develop a sense of responsibility and are able to transfer problem solving skills developed to other areas of the curriculum at Lady Lumley's.

The course is run by a Mountain Leader Training England qualified instructor to ensure the highest standards of safety. If you are interested in climbing, please see Mr Mann.
