Outdoor Education
Outdoor Learning at Lady Lumley’s School
Our thriving Outdoor Education department offers students unique opportunities to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and build resilience through hands-on experiences in the great outdoors. With a team of specialist, qualified instructors, we provide a wide range of activities using our extensive equipment, including canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes, expedition gear, and our very own climbing wall. We believe all students should have access to high quality learning beyond the classroom and make our activities as accessible as possible.
Weekly Outdoor Education Club
Our weekly Outdoor Education Club allows students to participate in different activities each week. From canoeing to mountain biking and climbing, students have the chance to try something new, build confidence, and develop teamwork skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Year 9 Winter Residential
Each year, our Year 9 students take part in an unforgettable winter residential at Peat Rigg Outdoor Centre. This experience pushes students out of their comfort zones, helping them to build resilience, leadership skills, and a deeper connection with their peers.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme is one of the strongest in the region, offering Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels with expeditions by foot and canoe. With some of the highest DofE pass rates around, we’re proud of the achievements our students make on their journey through this programme.
Sixth Form Enrichment and Beyond
Outdoor Education is also a key part of our Sixth Form enrichment programme, with a weekly offering of new and challenging activities. We have exciting new plans for overseas outdoor opportunities currently in development.
