Raising Aspirations Team

Careers Leader: Mr M Heeley, Email: m.heeley@ll.coastandvale.academy Telephone 01751 472846

Careers Advisor: Mrs A Lowe, email a.lowe@ll.coastandvale.academy

Mrs Anna Lowe, our Careers Advisor, is in school every Monday during term time. Every student is entitled to a face to face Career Guidance interview if they would like one. Students can ask for an interview and referrals can be made by teaching staff, support staff and parents.

Guidance interviews typically last between 20-40 minutes, shortly after the interview each student seen will receive a Career Action Plan with agreed action points to help them move forward. It is helpful for students to make notes before their session and write down any questions they may have so that things are not missed. Students can ask for a follow up appointment if they wish and are often invited along again at a later date if the Careers Advisor feels it would be beneficial.

Even if you think you know what you want to do later on, or which subjects you intend to choose in year 9 it is a very good idea to come along for a discussion just to make certain that you have chosen the right subjects and are aware of all options available to you after year 11. There is rarely only one route to a career and there may be alternatives that you are not aware of. It doesn’t matter what school year you are in, it is never too early to begin researching your options. This is your future, it is important that you make informed choices. A Career Guidance interview can help you with your next steps.

To make an appointment, please speak with Mr Heeley, your form tutor or a member of pastoral.

Provider Access

Lady Lumley's School Provider Access Policy Statement Schools are required to ensure that there is an opportunity for a range of education and training providers to access students in years 8 to 13 for the purposes of informing them about approved technical education, qualifications or apprenticeships. Schools must have a policy statement that outlines the circumstances in which education and training providers will be given access to these students. This is outlined in section 42B of the Education Act 1997. This policy statement shows how our school complies with these requirements. Opportunities for access A number of events, integrated into our careers programme and including parents’ evenings will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to students and/or their parents/carers. Please speak to Martin Heeley to identify the most suitable opportunity for you. Safeguarding - Our safeguarding/child protection policy outlines the school’s procedure for checking the identity and suitability of visitors. Education and training providers will be expected to adhere to this policy. Premises and facilities Learning spaces such as the hall and classrooms, which include access to technology, screens and audio facilities can be made available on request. In the first instance, please contact Martin Heeley to discuss your requirements. Providers are welcome to leave at reception prospectuses or other material for students to read. Management of provider access requests

A provider wishing to request access should contact: Martin Heeley, Careers Lead. Telephone: 01751 472846 Email: m.heeley@ll.coastandvale.academy

Careers in Education

Throughout the year, we hold careers sessions during our Life lessons. We actively involve colleges, universities, training providers, professionals and ex-students.

If you are a parent who is prepared to be available for one or two of these hour long sessions during the course of the year, please contact Mr Heleey at the school via m.heeley@ll.coastandvale.academy to volunteer.

Likewise, if you know or are an ex-student who would be prepared to be involved as a ‘Career Champion’ once or twice a year in this way, please let Mr Heeley know.
