Sixth Form

Independent Learning

For students to maximise their potential within sixth form it is essential that they become excellent independent learners. A-Levels and Level 3 BTEC qualifications that the students undertake require large amounts of learning outside of the classroom.

To help students to become the best independent learners they can be we have a tutor programme that delivers strategies for the students to then implement. Our sixth form students gain invaluable advice on how learning works, how new knowledge needs to be embedded in long-term memory, how thinking hard is the key to active understanding, how retrieval is key to success over the two years and crucially; the strategies they require to make this happen. High quality learning happens outside of the classroom when students are well organised. The Lady Lumley’s Sixth Form Learning Cycle helps students to become the best students that they can be; organised, proactive, engaged, focused, reflective and resilient
