Sixth Form

Personal Development

To help our students prepare for life post-18 we have a focus on their personal development. This supplements their academic progress and readies them for the future jobs market, as well as supporting them to become the best version of themselves. Through assemblies, daily tutor time, weekly enrichment and fortnightly personal development lessons, students receive a broad array of experiences that help to shape them as excellent young citizens within a modern society.

Our sixth form students develop highly effective independent learning capability; helpful for both their academic progress and readying them for project driven aspects of university, apprenticeships and employment.

Through analysing articles, watching TED talks and discussing current affairs in tutor time and personal development lessons, students further their cultural, social, economic and political awareness.

Students develop their careers planning and preparation through tutor time, personal development lessons, assemblies and external speakers. UCAS and apprenticeships are explored in detail, so that students are fully aware of their options, skillset required and pathway ahead. The sixth form team in on hand to help students one-to-one with guidance and advice.

Student leadership is developed through a variety of opportunities. Our sixth form student leadership drive change in the sixth form. They meet fortnightly and bring progressive ideas, act as the voice of the sixth form, collaborate with their peers across Years 12 and 13 and generate improvement strategies in a collective and composed manner. Across sixth form, students from both years 12 and 13 support each other in subject areas. They team up and in shared study periods to help and support each other. Another area of leadership that our sixth form students develop with is their participation in lessons lower down the school. They invaluably help and support students from years 7 to 11 with their progress, developing a plethora of leadership qualities in the process. In 2022-23 students in sixth form have also started supporting younger students by volunteering to lead in tutor time by way of reading to the whole group. Not only developing public speaking skills but excellently demonstrating leading by example within a key educational skill.

We are proud of the rounded individuals that our sixth formers are and their willingness to engage in the school community and develop their all-round skillset is impressive to see.
