Pupil Premium

The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Funding for 2023 - 2024

In the 2023 to 2024 financial year, Scalby School will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:

  • £955 for secondary-aged pupils

Schools will also receive £2,345 for each looked-after pupil who:

  • has been looked after for 1 day or more
  • was adopted from care on or after 30 December 2005, or left care under:
    • a special guardianship order
    • a residence order

Schools also get £310 for every pupil with a parent who:

  • is serving in HM Forces
  • has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence

This funding is to help with pastoral support.

Barriers to Educational Achievement for Disadvantaged Students at Scalby School

The main barriers to student’s achievement have been identified as;

  • Progress– with focus on gaps in knowledge, literacy and language poverty,
  • Behaviour,
  • Quality First Teaching,
  • Enrichment and Parental Engagement,
  • Attendance.

Our Disadvantaged Students strategy below sets out targets for each of these barriers which is subsequently linked to the pupil premium spending. Each activity identified in the plan aims at addressing the targeted barriers. This ensures that all spending is then subsequently linked to one of the 5 key targets identified to overcome the barriers to learning. Reasons for the choice of each activity is detailed next to each area of staff and resource spending.
