School Day

The DfE recommends that secondary school students aged 12 to 16 should be taught for 25 hours per week.

At Scalby School students have 25 lessons per week of one hour each as well as Mentor times. The compulsory school day starts at 08.25 and ends at 14.30. This time runs from the official start of the school day (period 1) to the official end of the compulsory school day. It includes breaks, but not optional after school activities. At 08.20 bell rings to warn students that they should be present on site and in readiness for period 1 at 08.25. A student who arrives in class after the second bell at 08.25 is marked late and will receive a one hour detention. Students should not arrive on site too early since staff supervision duties do not begin until 08.05. 

The pattern of the school day for 2024 is as follows:

10.25am - 10.43am	Break 1 Year 8,10 &11
10.43am - 11am	Mentor 2 Year 8,10 & 11

11am - 12pm	Period 3

*Year assemblies are held daily during mentor time. 

*Student lunchtimes take place on split sessions during period 4.
