For Parents and Carers

Food and drink

Your child can have a cooked meal or a sandwich or jacket potato provided by our caterers. Alternatively you can provide a packed lunch for your child.

All EYFS and Key Stage 1 pupils will receive a school lunch without the need for parents to pay. This is because the school accesses the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals Scheme. The cost of a school meal is £2.65 per day or £13.25 per week for KS2 pupils. Dinner money must be paid, in advance, via MCAS

Medical Diets

If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or medical condition which necessitates a special diet please apply for them to receive a personalised medical diet from our caterers via their online portal.

Medical diets are available for pupils with food based allergies, e.g. soya, peanut or egg and medical conditions such as PKU, Type 1 Diabetes and Coeliac Disease.

Once verified by the school your application will go through to our caterer's dieticians and a medical diet will be drawn up for your child to run along side our seasonal menu.

Please click here to see the Parent User Guide which will help you complete the form. The school postcode is YO12 5JA.

Free School Meals

Many of our families could get Free School Meals but do not claim for them; your child(ren) may be entitled to Free School Meals if you, as the parent, are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (income based)
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit or Child Tax Credit (but NOT Working Tax Credit)

Why claim?

  • Save hundreds of pounds per year
  • Extra funding for the school in the form of Pupil Premium
  • Other pupils and parents will not know you are claiming

We now aim to check eligibility for free school meals for all students when they start at the school to ensure we can provide free school meals to all who qualify.

We use the Online Free School Meal (OFSM) system which checks and confirms to you and the school whether you are eligible or not. Even if your child is not eligible now, the system continues to check and will notify you and the school if your child becomes eligible in the future.

If you do not believe you have provided the relevant details to enable us to check eligibility on your behalf, you can apply yourself.

To apply for free school meals visit the link below and search for the school to start your application:

This online process replaces the paper application form that parents used to have to send to complete and send to North Yorkshire Council.

Nut-Aware School

We at Newby and Scalby Primary School aim to be a Nut-Aware school.

This means that the following items should not be brought into school:

  • Packs of nuts
  • Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches
  • Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
  • Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
  • Sesame seed rolls and breads containing sesame seeds (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
  • Cakes made with nuts
  • Any home cooked meals or packed lunches that are made with nuts

Thank you in advance for your co-operation.
